16S rRNA sequencing
16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) is a component of the 30S subunit of prokaryotic ribosomes. 16S rRNA is approximately 1,542 nt in length and contains nine variable regions interspersed between conserved regions. Conserved sequence regions reflect the genetic relationship between biological species, while variable sequence regions reflect differences between species.
